- What is a crane second opinion?
- A crane second opinion is an independent technical review of a quote, specification, inspection finding or repair recommendation you have already received from a crane supplier or service provider. Crane Advisory Group reviews the scope, duty class, pricing and technical basis, and tells the owner whether the recommendation is justified, over-specified, incomplete or priced outside market.
- When is a second opinion worth getting?
- A second opinion is worth getting whenever the cost of being wrong is greater than the cost of the review. In practice that means major repair recommendations, crane replacement proposals, modernization quotes, multi-year service agreements, and any inspection report that recommends significant corrective work. It is most useful before a purchase order is issued.
- Will a second opinion delay the project?
- Typically no. Most engagements are quick reviews that run in parallel with the owner's internal approval process. The delay risk is usually smaller than the risk of approving scope that turns out to be unnecessary or incomplete.
- Does a second opinion mean the original supplier is wrong?
- Not necessarily, and in many cases the review confirms the supplier's recommendation — which gives the owner documented support for the spend. The value is in the verification. Where the review does find a gap, it is usually duty class mismatch, missing scope that surfaces later as a change order, or a specification written around one manufacturer's product line.
